John O. “Dick” Frymoyer, 88, of McAlisterville, passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2021, at his residence.

Born on November 8, 1932, in Evendale, Juniata County, he is a son of the late Roscoe and Elda Mae (Kauffman) Frymoyer.

On November 8, 1957, he married his surviving wife, Norma M. (Ehrenzeller) Frymoyer, with whom he was blessed to share over 63 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Rose M. Auker and her husband Jerry, Jeffrey J. Frymoyer and his wife Kelly, and Jennifer K. Smith and her husband Ed all of McAlisterville; two sisters, Norma Maneval and her husband Richard of Evendale and Lorene Gingrich and her husband Ernie of Harrisburg; and six grandchildren, Tyler Auker and his fiancé Amanda Sheaffer, Ben Auker, Morgan Peoples and her husband Ethan, Andy Frymoyer, Levi Smith, and Carter Smith.

Three brothers, Gerald Frymoyer, William Frymoyer, and Donald Frymoyer ; one sister, Mary Hoffman; and a brother and sister in infancy, preceded him in death.

Mr. Frymoyer was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in McAlisterville.

In 1950, Dick founded Frymoyer Excavation which transitioned in 1990 to Frymoyer and Son Excavating in McAlisterville. Along with his wife, he owned and operated Frymoyer Storage, Frymoyer Car Wash and Laundromat, and various rental properties.

He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, and spending time with his family at the cabin; however, his greatest pride and joy came from his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and commitment to his family and community.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 144 Red Bank Road, McAlisterville with the Rev. James A. Neimond Jr. and the Rev. Michael Neimond officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.

A viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at St. John’s United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Frymoyer's memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Dutchman Hunting Camp

The Dutchman Hunting Camp expresses our sympathies to the family and friends of Dick Frymoyer. Dick was our first (and only) call for any of our excavation needs around the cabin as he was always reliable, honest, and great to work with. Thank you for all you've done for our cabin getaway and help making it what it is today. Rest in Peace

My memories of (Digger) Dick are all work related since that's where I saw him most. Dick was my fathers choice to do all of the excavation on every house he built. I never heard my father say a negative word about Dick the man as a person or Dicks work. My father was very fussy and expected work done well, so that in itself says a lot.
My own personal memories of Dick are him pulling in with the low boy, taking the chains off, dropping the ramps and having the machine off in very short order. He certainly knew how to work. I never saw him walk slowly, always with a fast gate. When Dick pulled in it was all about work. His work ethic impressed me as a young man and my work ethic today has been positively affected by him. The men who did work for my dad when I was young were all a type of hero to me.
I'm not sure what heaven is like but if the Lord needs anything done up there, He just got a good man to getter done. I can imagine Dick and my father building something up there.

With Care,
Jim Davis. (my father was John E. Davis of Thompsontown)
