Daniel Brown, Deceased

  Daniel B. Brown was the son of the late R. Bradford Brown, Jr. and the late Barbara Jo ( Heck) Brown.  He grew up in a family of five children, which includes, the late Bradford G. "B.G." Brown, Kelly L. Phenicie, Robert L. Brown and David R. Brown.  He was married to Kathy J. (Parson) Brown and they are the proud parents of one son, Nicholas Daniel Brown.

  Dan was a life long resident of Juniata County and has served on numerous civic and community boards.  He was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown, member and past president of the Mifflintown Lions Club, Union Lodge No. 324, F&AM, Mifflintown, Harrisburg Consistory, A.A.S.R., past treas. and board of director for the Juniata County Library, past board of director for the Mifflin-Juniata United Way, where he had served as Campaign Chairman for Juniata County. Dan also served on the Main Board of Directors for the First National Bank of Mifflintown.

  Dan is a 1977 graduate of Juniata High School, Mifflintown and a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.  He has also been trained and certified in Eye Enucleation.

  Dan is the fifith generation and the eighth funeral director of the Brown Family to serve the Juniata County area and was the President of the Corporation.  On Oct 1, 1989 he purchased the business from his father after his retirement and on Oct. 1, 2001 he purchased the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home in McAlisterville.

  He enjoyed golfing when time permitted,and being with his family. Daniel passed away on September 15, 2023.

Nicholas is the sixth generation of the Brown family to become a licensed Funeral Director. Nicholas is a graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He has assumed the duties of President of the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc.

Ryan is a proud Juniata County native, having grown up in Oakland Mills and now resides with his fiance, Tobie Benner, in Fermanagh Township. He is the son of Robert “Bob” Pellman of Arch Rock and Jill Harlan of McCoysville; the grandson of the late Lester and Phyllis Pellman; the older brother of the late Zachary "Bush" Pellman, and the proud uncle of Mackenzie, Lennox, Brooks, and Kaiser.

Ryan graduated from Juniata High School in 2003 and went on to graduate in 2007 from Briarwood College in Southington, CT with degrees in Mortuary Science and General Studies. After college, he completed his internship at a firm in Centre County and was licensed in November 2009.  After becoming licensed, he remained with that firm until 2014 when he began providing funeral directing and embalming services to several funeral homes in Central Pennsylvania.  Ryan was selected to become our Licensed Funeral Director & Supervisor for the McAlisterville location in March of 2018. In addition to being a funeral director, Ryan is licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Life Insurance and Annuities Producer specializing in Pre-Arranging Funeral Services.

Aside from spending time with his family, Ryan is very active in the community as a Volunteer Firefighter at the Friendship Fire Company # 1 in Port Royal, where he also serves as the President of the Fire Company and has previously served as the Treasurer for both the Fire Company and the Fire Company's Fireman's Relief Association.  In the past, he also volunteered his time as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) with Port Royal EMS and continues to maintain his EMT certification. His memberships include the Mifflin-Mifflintown Lions Club, the Lewistown Moose Lodge #143, the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post #5863 in Mifflintown, the Juniata County Sportsmen's Association, the Juniata Valley Funeral Directors Association, the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, and the National Funeral Directors Association. In his spare time, he enjoys archery and rifle hunting, golfing, Penn State football, Central Pennsylvania dirt track racing, music of many genres, and being outdoors.

  Kathy (Parson) grew up in neighboring Mifflin County. She graduated from Lewistown High School in 1980 and from Shippensburg University in 1985, with a BS in Criminal Justice-Courts and Corrections track. After college she worked for The Juniata Association for the Blind as Social Service Coordinator from 1986 to 1994. From 1994 to 2005 Kathy was employed by Beverly Healthcare-William Penn as Admissions/ Social Service Coordinator, then from 2005-2006 for Bridges at Brookline as Marketing Coordinator before finally deciding to help her husband Dan at the funeral home.

  Kathy has lived in Juniata County since 1990 after marrying Daniel B. Brown. Kathy and Dan have one son, Nicholas. Kathy enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, and traveling to the shore.

  Kathy has served on various community committees, such as Kid Connection, Mifflin / Juniata Council of Agencies, Lewistown Ladies Lions Club, Mifflintown Cub Scouts-serving as Treasurer from 2006 to 2008. Currently she is a member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church.
