Calvin H. “Callie” Zeiders, 83, of McAlisterville passed away at 11:12 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in the Emergency Department of the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on September 23, 1934 in Fayette Twp., Juniata County, he was a son of the late Roscoe H. and Emily (Willoughby) Zeiders. On December 5, 1952 he married his late wife, Evelyn I. (Elsasser) Zeiders, with whom he was blessed to share nearly 50 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on November 9, 2002. His companion of 14 years, Sandra L. (Haubert) Jamison, of McAlisterville survives him.
In addition to his companion, he is survived by his children, Steven H. Zeiders and his companion Norma Hoover, of Selinsgrove, Heidi J. Soder and her husband Brian, James L. Zeiders and his wife Sue, all of McAlisterville; siblings, William Zeiders and his wife Marian, of McAlisterville, Linda Hill and her husband Ed, of Abbotstown; grandchildren, Paula Chapel and her husband Lester, Brandon Zeiders and his wife Jennifer, Shannon Ehrisman and her husband Austin, Bailey Zeiders; great grandchildren, Olivia Zeiders, Jordan Hoover, Joel Hoover, Harley Chapel and several great-great grandchildren.
His past memberships include, Camp Coble, the J.E. Bowen, Jr. AMVETS Post No. 122, Thompsontown, American Legion Post No. 298 and the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post No. 5863, both of Mifflintown.
In earlier life he owned and operated Zeiders Garage, Oakland Mills, and later, along with his late wife Evelyn, they owned and operated the E Z Mart, Oakland Mills. He also worked for Hempt Brothers Construction and after 21 years he retired in 2011 with the sale of his poultry farm.
Callie had many diverse interests: he loved country music, playing the guitar, flying his model airplanes and working in his garden. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, who enjoyed his time as mechanic for his go-cart and street stock racing teams, with his son Steve as his driver. Callie enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and the time that he vacationed in Florida.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 2 p.m. from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with the Pastor Jerry Knouse officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John’s United Methodist Cemetery, Cocolamus.
A viewing will be held from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the funeral home.
