Richard L. Amey, 87, died Sunday, January 3, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born on October 24, 1928, in Fayette Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Lee R. and Mary V. (Varner) Amey. On December 5, 1950, he married his surviving wife Marjorie F. (Arnold) Amey, with whom he was blessed to share more than 65 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Alan Amey and his wife Lori, of Millerstown, Chris Amey and his wife Sherri, Justin Amey and his wife Kara, all of McAlisterville; son-in-law, Andrew Dill and his wife Gail, of Fenton, MI; sister, Vera Sierer and her husband Robert, of McAlisterville; grandchildren, Erik Dill, Thomas Dill and his wife Meredith, Mark Dill, Ashton Neal and her husband Jason, Denton Amey and his wife Sara, Clayton Amey, Laurel Amey, Tristan Amey, Isabel Amey, Lily Amey, Katie Amey; step grandchildren, Ellie Mummah, Chelsea Nastasi and her husband Nick, Paige Lower, Evan Lower; great granddaughter, Elora Neal; step great granddaughter, Emilie Nastasi.
Preceding him in death was a daughter Kay (Amey) Dill.
Mr. Amey was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church, McAlisterville, the Teamsters Union and a life member of the NRA.
In earlier life, Richard was employed as a truck driver for C.D. Zimmerman Trucking, Mifflintown, Fenner Trucking, Mifflintown and later retired from Kaplan Trucking, Steubenville, OH in 1992.
Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as an active combat veteran of the Korean War.
He enjoyed hunting, his horses and took great pleasure spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Richard also enjoyed visiting at Hoober’s coffee corner.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016 from the St. John’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Candace Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery, where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
A viewing will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville and from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Friday at the church.
