Clyde E. Barth, 89, of McAlisterville died at 1:09 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at his residence.
Born on July 22, 1928, in Fayette Twp., Juniata County he was a son of the late Cloyd E. and Elizabeth J. (Weller) Barth. On October 24, 1949, he married his first wife, Delorus B. “Sis” (Bossinger) Barth, who preceded him in death on February 13, 1994. On November 29, 1995 he married his surviving wife, Shirley K. (Strawser) Barth.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his step children, Melinda Meiser and her husband Harry, of Thompsontown, Deborah Pyle and her companion, of Penns Creek; Roger Walter and his wife Lori of McAlisterville; siblings, James G. Barth and his wife Donna Jean, Paul E. Barth, Kathryn “Cassie” Long and her husband Harold, all of McAlisterville, 10 step grandchildren and many step great grandchildren.
A step son, Robert Walter and a step-granddaughter, Courtney Meiser, preceded him in death.
Mr. Barth was a member of the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, a member The Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge No. 710, Shallotte, NC, VFW Post No. 7288, Calabash, NC and the American Legion Post No. 298, Mifflintown.
He was a proud veteran having served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII and he also served with the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Korean War.
In earlier life he was employed by Standard Steel, Burnham and the American Viscose Corp., Lewistown before working as the parts manager at Switzer Chevrolet, Mifflintown. After which he was a self-employed long distance truck driver and he retired as the owner of Barth’s Grocery, McAlisterville. During his retirement he mowed the grass at various golf courses in South Carolina.
Clyde enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting; however, his true passion was mowing his lawn.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with Rev. Christopher Mathiason officiating. Following the service at the funeral home the Juniata County Veterans Council will accord full military burial honors.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Tuesday at the funeral home.
