Homer Harry Hutchinson, 87, of Reeds Gap died at 1 a.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on April 14, 1930, in Tuscarora Twp., Juniata County, he is a son of the late Banks and Beulah (Crick) Hutchinson. On April 25, 1959, he married his late wife, Isabelle L. (Bedlyon) Hutchinson, with whom his was blessed to share more than 49 years, until she preceded him in death on July 16, 2008.
Surviving are his sons, Darwin Hutchinson, Dorn Hutchinson and his wife Kathy, all of Reeds Gap; a step son, Greg Bedlyon, Sr. of Lewistown; siblings Banks Hutchinson and his wife Erma, of Mifflintown, Dolly Purcell, of Lewistown; five grandchildren, Sherry Bedlyon, Greg Bedlyon Jr., Bradley Bedlyon, Amanda Cluck, and Melissa Harlan; and several great grandchildren.
Four sisters, Clarabelle Hutchinson, Alice Hutchinson, Ruth Bennett, and Arlene Gane, preceded him in death.
He was a 1949 graduate of Juniata Joint High School and a member of the former Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Reeds Gap. He had presently been attending the McCoysville Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Hutchinson proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Military Police, during the Korean War.
In 1963, he purchased the General Store in Reeds Gap from E.J. Harris and operated it as Hutchinson’s Store until it closed in 1997.
Homer enjoyed traveling, especially taking bus trips with his late wife. He took great pleasure in loafing with the patrons of the store and sitting on the porch of the store, with his dog, Dixie. However, his greatest joy came from his family, especially attending all of his grandchildren’s activities.
