THOMPSONTOWN, Leonard R. Zellers, 85, of Thompsontown, died at 9:40 p.m., on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on November 28, 1927, in Enola, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late William L. and Emma R. (Shadle) Zellers. On December 16, 1950, he married his surviving wife, Virginia (Zaring) Zellers, with whom he spent more than 62 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Elaine Z. Amey and her husband Ed, of Thompsontown, Rebecca Spencer and her husband David, of New Columbia, three grandsons, David B. Spencer, Anthony E. Spencer, and Matthew R. Spencer, and he leaves behind five great grandchildren.
Mr. Zellers was a 1946 graduate of Sunbury High School, and proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was a member of the Liverpool United Methodist Church, the Newport Social Order of Owls, and the Newport Lodge 381, F&AM.
Following his military service, he worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Harrisburg and later at S&S Chevrolet, Thompsontown, after which he owned and operated Zeller’s Gulf Station, Newport, for 25 years.
Leonard enjoyed fishing, gardening, animals, and going to the beach.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with Rev. Paul Kauffman officiating. Interment will be in St. John (Barner’s) Cemetery, Liverpool. Full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service, Thursday, at the funeral home.
