Obituary for Gene L. Burdge



Gene L. Burdge, 76, of Blairs Mills, passed away at 6:11 PM on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at his residence.
Born on July 28,1947 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he is the son of the late Roy D. Burdge and Dolly Alverna (Scott) Burdge.
On October 16, 1966, he married his wife, Susan “Sue” Marie (Baney) Burdge with whom he was blessed to share almost 55 years of marriage before her passing on July 10, 2021.
He is survived by his children, Tim Burdge and his wife Annette of Mifflintown, Joey Burdge and Angel Burdge, both of Blairs Mills; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three siblings, Rev. Judy Rowles, Joyce Campbell and husband, Clair, Harry Burdge and wife, Christine.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, James “Jimmy” Burdge, a granddaughter, Kelcy Burdge, and siblings, Carl Edward Burdge, David R. Burdge, Ricky L. Burdge, and Jenny Burdge.
He was a member of the Village Lighthouse Chapel, where he served as a Deacon.
Mr. Burdge worked in construction as an operator. His hobbies included hunting, playing the guitar, singing, serving the Lord and racing. Gene loved to eat and enjoyed playing softball in his younger days, his greatest joy was being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he was very close with his family and loved them very much.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 10,2024 at 12:00 p.m. from the Village Lighthouse Chapel, 16378 Shade Valley Road, Blairs Mills, with his sister Pastor Judy Rowles officiating. Interment will follow in Book Cemetery, Shade Valley.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9,2024 and from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday all from the Village Lighthouse Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Burdge’s memory may be made to his church, Village Lighthouse Chapel, 16378 Shade Valley Road, Blairs Mills, PA 17213.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
