Obituary for Clifford P. Horning




Clifford P. Horning, 82, formerly of Thompsontown, passed away at 6:10 p.m., Saturday, December 30, 2023, at WellSpan York Hospital.

Born on July 19, 1941, in Thompsontown, Juniata County, he is the son of the late Robert L. and Ida M. (Graybill) Horning. On July 18, 1970, he was married to his late wife, Ethel L. (Light) Horning, with whom he was blessed to share more than 48 years of marriage before her passing on December 13, 2018.

He is survived by his children, Barbara Crum, of York, Suzanne Eichman, of Harrisburg, Michael Horning, of Thompsontown, James Horning of Idaho; three grandchildren, Adam, Alison, and Cortney; four great-grandchildren, AunaLeiha, Anya, Alec, and Harlow; one niece, Dawn Horning; and one nephew, Brett Fisher.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Dreibelbis.

Mr. Horning was a graduate of East Juniata High School in Cocolamus and was employed for many years as a Manager for Avis Rent a Car and retired from Sausman Insurance Company in Thompsontown.

Cliff was a member of the Thompsontown Methodist Church and was a longtime faithful volunteer for the Thompsontown Ambulance League where he served the community for many years as a Driver and First Responder.

Cliff was an avid dirt track racing fan following the local dirt track circuit throughout Central PA and during the winter months, he enjoyed traveling to Florida to watch dirt track racing; however, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, from the Thompsontown Methodist Church, West Main St., Thompsontown with Pastor Donald Walters officiating. Interment will be private at a later date in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Thompsontown.

There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the church.
