Obituary for Virgina R. Swartz

Virginia R. (Kelley) Swartz died at Greenwood Village Nursing Center, Lewistown on the morning of Sunday, December 31, 2023.

Born August 20, 1933 in Beale Township, Juniata County, Virginia was the daughter of the late Dervin J. and Pauline (Fuller) Kelley. Virginia married her late husband, Ralph K. Swartz, on August 19, 1950. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2006, after fifty-six years of marriage. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann Henry and Dale H. Henry III of Lewistown; two brothers, Harold E. Kelley of San Antonio, Texas and Russell W. Kelley of Lititz and a sister, Martha Jane Kline and her husband Robert A. Kline of York. She is also survived by nine nieces and nephews.

Virginia was also preceded in death by a sister, Janet C. Zea, on January 1, 2012 and a brother Dervin F. Kelley Jr on April 22, 2022.

Along with her husband, she owned and operated the Swartz family farm in Beale Township for 50 years, before moving to Mifflintown following her husband’s death. In late 2016, Virginia retired from the Juniata County Library after 50 years of service. She also served two terms as Judge of Elections for Mifflintown Borough. Virginia was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Mifflintown. She enjoyed watching Penn State football and, for several years, volunteered with Meals on Wheels of Juniata County.

The Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown is handling the funeral arrangements, which will be private at the convenience of the family, with Pastor Mindy Petrovcic officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery in Mifflintown. The family would like to thank the staff at Greenwood Village for all the care they showed Virginia.
