Obituary for Elwood L. Dietz

Elwood L. Dietz, 87, of Millerstown, passed away at 8:04 PM on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at his residence.

Born on May 1, 1936 in Millerstown, Perry County, he is the son of the late John E. and Alma L. (Lauver) Dietz.

On June 1, 1963, he was married to his surviving wife, Minnie B. (Benson) Dietz with whom he was blessed to share more than 60 years of marriage before his passing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Cathy Ritzman and her husband Terry of Millerstown; one grandson, Mark A. Dietz and his wife Elizabeth of Berkeley Heights, NJ; one sister, Clara Dunn of Millerstown; and many generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Palmer, Clyde, and Bright Dietz, Hazel Reich,
and Eileen Patterson.

In earlier life, Mr. Dietz was employed at Eastern Express in Camp Hill; following that, he spent most of his working career as a General Contractor and also worked and retired as an Operator for PennDot out of the New Bloomfield Shed. Also at one time, Elwood owned and operated his own small engine/auto repair business.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Millerstown and was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed hunting, tinkering, feeding birds and squirrels, and was a well known handyman who everyone brought things for him to fix; however, his greatest joy came from spending cherished time with his family.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 26, 2023 from Faith Lutheran Church, 161 Dresslers Ridge Road, Millerstown with Pastor Paul Kampa officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

There will be a visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Dietz’s memory can be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 161 Dresslers Ridge Road, Millerstown, PA 17062 or to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
