Obituary for Earl R. Guyer

Earl R. Guyer, 98, of Maze, passed away at 10:40 AM on Thursday, March 16, 2023.

Born on January 14, 1925 in Cocolamus, Juniata County, he is a son of the late Paul LeRoy and Anna Mae (Spece) Guyer.

On November 22, 1947, he married his late wife, Thelma S. (Shelley) Guyer, with whom he was blessed to share over 70 years of marriage before her passing on April 26, 2018.

He is survived by his children, Lana J. Leitzel and her husband Kenneth of Thompsontown and Earlene Parson and her husband John of Loysville; three grandchildren, Jeff Leitzel, Brian Parson, and Angie Leitzel; five great grandchildren, Brittany Witherite, Clay Leitzel, Colton Leitzel, Kendra Neal, and Tyler Parson; six great great grandchildren, Alice Witherite, Shyann Witherite, Maci Neal, Adlee Neal, Willow Parson, and Kinsley Parson; one brother, Nolan Guyer of Thompsontown; two sisters in law, Reba Guyer and Peggy Guyer, both of Thompsontown; and many generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Resa Shoop; one great granddaughter, Kyley Parson; his siblings, Roy R. Guyer, Donnie Guyer, and Teenie Benner; two sisters in law, Audrey Guyer and Patsy Guyer; and one brother-in-law, J. Robert Benner.

Mr. Guyer honorably served our country and was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy, where he served during World War II and was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal.

Earl was employed as a Mechanic and retired after 34 years of service with TRW in Harrisburg.

He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in East Salem and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, riding four-wheeler and his tractor, building bird houses, and going for breakfast at various area restaurants; however, his greatest joy came from time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A public viewing will be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.

Funeral Services will be private with Pastor Doug Mellott officiating. Interment will also be private at the East
Salem Cemetery where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
