Obituary for Gail V. Griffin (VanOrmer)

Gail (VanOrmer) Griffin, 83, of Rockville, MD, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Sunrise of Rockville following complications from a stroke.

Born on June 14, 1939 in Mifflin, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Charles Jamison and Mildred (Crozier) VanOrmer.

She is survived by her children, Lynne Tucker and husband Ken, Michael Towns and wife Mary, Geoffrey Griffin, Jeremy Griffin, Brian Towns and wife Alicia, and Jennifer Vosburg and husband Chad; her loving grandchildren, David Catoe, Jillian Ochsman and husband Steven, Bill Griffin, Josh Towns, Meredith Towns, Sara Vosburg, Kayla Vosburg, Mark Towns, Lexi Vosburg, Katie Griffin, and Emma Vosburg; one great granddaughter, Chloe Ochsman; and her dear cousin, Edie Murphy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Benjamin Griffin in 2017; and one sister and brother in law, Carol and Dave Gelnett.

Mrs. Griffin was a 1957 graduate of East Juniata High School in Cocolamus and always was one to be involved and socially oriented who played many sports, acted in school plays, and earned many accolades.

While raising her six children, Gail earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychosocial Science at Penn State and attained her Master’s degree in Social Work Administration from Villanova. From Social Work to Real Estate, her heart was always one of service to others.

Gail loved to laugh and was an animal lover who always had two or three pets from whom she cared deeply.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her character, and her confidence to stand up for what she believed in.

In 2005, she retired from Boston to Annapolis, MD to be closer to her children and their children. She treasured her time with her grandchildren and loved her role as Grandmother.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 10, 2023 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville. Interment will follow in the Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlisterville.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral
home.
