Obituary for Ray F. Oberlin

Ray F. Oberlin, 84, formerly of Thompsontown, passed away at 2:48 AM, Monday, February 13, 2023, at Brookline Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Mifflintown.

Born on December 5, 1938, in Thompsontown, Juniata County, he is a son of the late Carl C. and Catherine (Longacre) Oberlin.

On June 28, 1964, he married his surviving wife, Beverly J. (Powell) Oberlin with whom he was blessed to share over 58 years of marriage before his passing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Michael Oberlin and his wife Trudy of McAlisterville; one daughter, Tammy A. Spangler and her husband Bob of Thompsontown; six grandchildren, Shane Spangler and his wife Brenda, Shelley Cornett and her husband Joe, Robert Ray Spangler and his wife Christina, Christopher Henry and his wife Nancy, Curtis Henry and his wife Allie, and Cody Henry and his companion Brooke King; thirteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl Swartz and Barbara King and her husband George, all of Mifflintown; and many generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Francis Oberlin, Emma Speece, Anna Clouser, and Alfred Oberlin.

Mr. Oberlin was employed and retired with over 31 ½ years of service to Triangle Pacific Corporation in Thompsontown.

His memberships included the Free Spring Church of the Brethren, Mifflintown where he was a member for over 23 years and served as a Steward; the Thompsontown Rod and Gun Club; and the Senior Adult Ministries at Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church where he also held membership for over 30 years;

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling especially on family vacations to Canada, and serving, along with his wife, on several disaster relief trips.

Ray will be remembered for his ability to hold a conversation with anyone and his devotion to his family and to his church.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Free Spring Church of the Brethren, 670 Free Spring Church Road, Mifflintown, with Pastor Terry Smith officiating. Interment will be private at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mifflintown

A visitation will be held from 10:30 AM until the time of the memorial services at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the church.
