Obituary for Stephen R. Sholly

Stephen R. Sholly, 71, of Mifflintown, passed away after a courageous battle with Angiosarcoma at 5:08 AM on Friday, June 10, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born on June 23, 1950 in Milton, Northumberland County, he is the son of the late Maxine (Sholly) Shelley.
On November 12, 1983, he was married to his surviving wife, Peggy J. (Peoples) Sholly with whom he was blessed to share over 38 years of marriage before his passing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Benjamin M. Sholly and his wife Tiffany of Mifflintown; two grandsons, Isaac and Conner; one sister, Stephanie Amtower and her husband Dennis of McAlisterville; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews; and three furbabies, Rhett, Remmie, and Sylvia.
Mr. Sholly was a 1968 graduate of East Juniata High School in Cocolamus, where he was a recipient of the MJSUN Farmer Degree.
Steve proudly served his country in the U.S. Army attaining Master Mechanic status as well as Vessel Vehicle and Track Vehicle Mechanic certifications.
He was employed and retired from DCNR – East Licking Creek Forestry Division.
His memberships included the Juniata County Veterans Council, the American Legion Post 298, and the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post 5863, both of Mifflintown.
He enjoyed the great outdoors, bird watching, landscaping around his home, woodworking, attending his grandsons’ sporting events, as well as Sunday picnics “Up the Crick.” Steve also accompanied the Port Royal BSA Troop to Philmont Scout Ranch in 2004.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with his brother in law, the Rev. Dr. Brand Eaton officiating. Interment will follow at Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Oakland Mills where military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
A closed casket visitation will take place from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
