Obituary for Louise D. "Lou" Burd

Louise D. “Lou” Burd, 86, of Academia, passed away at 2:02 AM., Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at the Richfield Health Care & Rehabilitation Center.
Born on December 9, 1935, in Milford Township, Juniata County she is a daughter of the late James W. and Ruth M. (Dumm) Dolin. On July 23, 1954 in Academia, she married her late husband F. Richard “Dick” Burd with whom she was blessed to share over 67 years of marriage before his passing.
She was the proud mother of three remarkable children, Karen and her husband Pat Henry of Academia, Cindy and her husband David Gates of Smartsville, CA, and the late James Richard “Jim” Burd; three sisters in law, Candy Dolin, of Seagrove, N.C., Barbara Dolin of Mifflintown, and Charlotte Fettig Burd of Port Royal, a brother-in-law; Richard C. “Dick” Saylor, of Mifflintown, grandchildren, Christina (Henry) Martin and her husband Kyle and John P. Henry IV and his wife Karly; and she leaves behind five great grandchildren, Julia L. Martin, Paige K. Martin, Dayden J. Henry, Dawson P. Henry, and Deekan C. Henry.
In addition to her parents and son she was preceded in death by a two brothers, Rosel E. Dolin and Lee A. Dolin; and a sister Constance D. “Connie” Saylor making her the last of her generation.
In 1953, she was a graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and her memberships included the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia and the Helping Hands Association of the Church, and the Juniata County Quilters Guild.
Professionally, in 1994, she retired with 35 years of service as a Program Assistant for the U.S.D.A./A.S.C.S.
With her gift of artistry, she loved quilting and sewing, baking pies every Saturday, and spending time with her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s events.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, 54 Church Road, Mifflin with the Rev. Joanne Torma officiating. Interment will follow in Academia Cemetery.
There will be no public viewing; however, a public visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the Church, along with a memorial service for the late Richard Burd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Burd’s memory may be made to the Helping Hands, 54 Church Road, Mifflin, PA 17058 or Alzheimers Association, 2959 Interstate Dr., Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown.
