Obituary for Glenn M. Swartz

Glenn M. Swartz, 80, of East Waterford, passed away at 10 PM on Friday, March 25, 2022, at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown. Glenn had battled complications from heart failure and cancer for several years.
He was born on April 2, 1941, on the farm in Lack Twp., Juniata County, the son of the late Rufus Glenn “Punch” and Dorothy (Palm) Swartz. On October 10, 1971, he married his late wife, Lois Ann (Alexander) Swartz, with whom he was blessed to share 12 years of marriage before her passing on October 18, 1983. He married former wife Janetta B. Stong on June 25, 1986.
Glenn is survived by two sons, Anthony G. Swartz and his wife Angela of Overland Park, KS and their children Malachi, Gabriel, and Josiah; Todd M. Swartz and his wife Kendra of East Waterford and their children Wyatt, Winston, and Walker; three sisters, Nancy Robinson and her husband Kim of Millerstown, Brenda Murphy of Honey Grove, Janie Kline and her husband Karl of East Waterford; brother-in-law, Jacob Shearer and his wife Clara of Dry Run, and his former wife, Janetta B. Stong-Swartz of Port Royal. In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Shearer, stepson Michael D. Stong, and an infant grandchild. Glenn was a 1959 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and honorably served our country in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961. He pursued heavy equipment operation for a short period of time and then took over the family farm raising crops, beef, and dairy. He was very proud to adopt organic farming practices early in his farming career. He also drove school bus for approximately 30 years and had a bus contract with the Juniata County School District. Glenn last attended Church of the Living Christ, Loysville and had formerly attended South Juniata Baptist Church in Honey Grove. He was the former President for the state of Pennsylvania’s chapter of the National Farmers Organization (NFO) and he loved travelling to the national conferences with friends. His hobbies included reading, bird watching, gardening, and hunting. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at South Juniata Baptist Church, 3647 Smokey Hollow Rd, Honey Grove, PA 17035 with Pastor Ethan Swartz officiating. Interment will follow at McCullochs Mills Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
