Obituary for Carl D. "Crabby / Pap" Leach

Carl D. “Crabby” “Pap” Leach, 71, of Mifflin, passed away at 1:13 PM on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at the Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.

Born on January 29, 1951 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he is a son of the late Samuel Banks and Barbara (Jones) Leach.

On October 8, 1970, he was married to his surviving wife, Kathryn L. (Murphy) Leach with whom he shared over 51 years of marriage before his passing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his children, Beth Leach of Mifflin, Carolyn Gardner and her husband Chris of Elgin, SC, David Leach of Mifflin, and Catherine “Cassie” Goshorn and her husband Robert of McVeytown; six grandchildren, Brittany Tyler and her husband Cody, Damian Gardner, Tyler Gardner, Kaleb Leach, Keyarra Leach, and Marleigh Goshorn; four great grandchildren, Maddie Tyler, Maci Gardner, Emmy Tyler, and Donovan Gardner; seven siblings, Dan Leach of Milroy, Kathy Murphy of Mifflin, Sharon Lane and her husband John of Lewistown, Joe Leach of Millvale, Scott Leach and his wife Faye of Duncannon, Marlin Leach and his wife Liz of Carlisle, and Michael Leach of Lewistown; and many
generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tracey Leach and his canine companion, Charley Dog.

He was a 1968 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and for all of his working career was a heavy equipment operator at various companies throughout Central Pennsylvania.

Mr. Leach honorably served our country during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1971 in the United States Army where he obtained the rank of Sergeant. For his service to our country, he was also awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, and was also a Purple Heart Recipient.

His memberships include the VFW Post 5863, the American Legion Post 298, both of Mifflintown, and was a former member of the Juniata Anglers Association.

Carl was an avid fisherman and enjoyed shooting pool, going to the races especially NASCAR races, and was a New York Giants fan; however, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 28, 2022 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Judy Rowles officiating and where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council. Interment will be private at Academia Cemetery, Academia.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the memorial services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the funeral home.
