Obituary for Burns T. "Tom" Ernest III



Burns T. "Tom" Ernest III, 75, of Mifflintown, passed away at 9:47 PM on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022 at UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg Hospital.

Born on November 29, 1946 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he is a son of the late Burns T. Jr. and Betty (Kyle) Ernest.

On February 12, 1966, he married his surviving wife, Linda M. (Bender) Ernest with whom he was blessed to share over 55 years of marriage before his passing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Bunne Heimbach and her fiance, Scott McLaughlin, Burns T. "Tom" Ernest IV and his companion, Angie Walters, all of Mifflintown, and Christopher Ernest of Mifflin; four grandchildren, Nicole, Ashlee, Shannon, and Derek; four great grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew; and several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Doyle Ernest, and a sister, Patricia Oliver making him the last of his generation.

Mr. Ernest was a 1964 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and honorably served our country in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Vietnam War.

Tom was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Mifflintown and the Mifflin-Mifflintown Lions Club.

He enjoyed playing golf, collecting trains, was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Pirates fan, and, in earlier life, enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 109 N. Third St., Mifflintown with Pastor Mindy Petrovcic officiating where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

Interment will be private at Union Memorial Gardens in Mifflintown.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of the Memorial Services at 2:00 PM on Saturday at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Ernest's memory can be made to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 109 N. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059 or to the Juniata Agape Ministries (Jam House), 14 Cottage Road, Suite B, Mifflin, PA 17058.
