Obituary for Barbara N. Gilson

Barbara N. Gilson, 91, of Port Royal, passed away at 2:32 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on February 23, 1930, in Lewistown, Mifflin Co., she was a daughter of the late James C. Jr. and Helen (Crawford) North. On July 12, 1947, she married her late husband, N. Stuart Gilson, Jr., with whom she was blessed to share nearly 47 years of marriage before his passing on June 28, 1994.
Surviving her are her children, James S. Gilson and his wife Joyce, Janet G. Conn and her husband William K., Joan G. Bryner and her husband Rodney, and Rebecca G. Trego and her husband Michael, all of Port Royal; and three grandchildren, Dr. Caitlin E. Conn, Neal L. Bryner, and Leah C. Bryner.
Barbara was a 1947 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and had attended Lycoming College in Williamsport.
Mrs. Gilson was a member and attended Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church in Academia and, in earlier life, attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Mifflintown where she taught Sunday School for 66 years combined at both churches.
She was employed and retired after 20 plus year of service as a Crop Enumerator for the United States Department of Agriculture. Also in earlier life, she served as a Substitute School Teacher for the Juniata County School District.
Her hobbies included reading, gardening and enjoyed traveling with her family.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, 54 Church Road, Mifflin, with the Rev. John C. Park officiating. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends for a time of fellowship and remembrances immediately following the Memorial Services on Saturday, August 7th at the Church.
