Obituary for J. Edmond "Ed" McWilliams
J. Edmond “Ed” McWilliams, 88, of Leesburg, FL, passed away at 7:20 AM, Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the Bridges at Brookline in Mifflintown.
Born on April 24, 1932 in Beale Twp., Juniata County, he is the son of the late J. Dewey and Katherine B. (McClure) McWilliams.
On December 7, 1952, he married his late wife, JoAnn S. (Saylor) McWilliams whom he was blessed to share more than 62 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on March 26, 2015.
He is survived by: his children, Pamela M. Kennedy and her husband J. Douglas, Scott E. McWilliams and his wife Gail L., Melissa J. Smith and her husband Daniel P., and J. Douglas McWilliams, all of Mifflintown; a sister, Pauline B. Campbell of Camp Hill; a brother in law, Richard C. “Dick” Saylor of Mifflin; and seven grandchildren, Michael Smith and his wife Kala, Vance Kennedy and his companion Cassandra, Alison Smith, Jill R. Kennedy Fry and husband Todd, Kristen Smith, and Steven Kennedy and his wife Shannon. and ten great grandchildren, Matthew, Meghan, Daylyn, Julian, Banks, Kael, Jacee, Heeth, Madison, and Cameron.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice M. Reed, Roberta M. Robinson, and Caryl Lee Groninger.
Mr. McWilliams was a graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
He also was a member of the Mifflintown Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award and a former member and past president of the Nook Rod and Gun Club.
Ed proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
In earlier life, he owned and operated the Atlantic Gas Station in partnership with his brother in law, Clarence Reed, before working and traveling all over the United States for Postal Supply and Standard Steel. Later, he owned Ed’s Drive In of Mifflintown and retired after owning and operating Juniata Disposal of Mifflintown for 24 years.
His enjoyment came from hunting, traveling, Penn State football, wintering in Florida, and all of the family activities.
All services are private with Pastor Mindy Petrovicic officiating. Interment will be at the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery in Mifflintown where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veteran’s Council.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. McWilliams memory can be made to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 109 N. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
