Obituary for Waunetah M. Powell (Dean)



Waunetah M. Powell, 94, of Mifflintown, passed away at 11:24 AM on Monday, March 15, 2021 at her residence.

Born on April 24, 1926 on Bell Island, Fermanagh Twp., Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Ira and Margaret (Snouffer) Dean.

On April 22, 1979, she married her surviving husband, Frederick C. “Fred” Powell with whom she was blessed to share over 41 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her daughters, Evelyn Price and her husband Jeff of Mifflintown and Vicki Van Horn and her husband Steven of Mifflin; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and thirteen great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Bates in October 2020 and a granddaughter, Jackie Berrier.

Waunetah was a 1944 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown.

In earlier life, she was employed at the American Viscose Corp. in Lewistown, Empire Kosher, Inc. in Mifflintown, and later was employed and retired as a cashier from Stop 35 and JP’s Restaurant in Mifflintown.

Her memberships included the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, VFW Post 5863 of Mifflintown, and was a member and past president of the Mifflintown Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Florida, and playing cards, especially on her Wednesday night card night with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, Claire and Ty.

Public Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 19, 2021 at the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown with Pastor Mindy Petrovcic officiating.

There will be no public viewing or visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Powell’s memory can be made to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 109 N. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
