Obituary for Carrie May Shirk

Carrie Mae Shirk, 88, of the Vintage Knolls, Danville and formerly of Mifflintown, passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the Bloomsburg Care & Rehabilitation Center.
Born on July 7, 1932, in Franklin County, she is a daughter of the late Charles H. and Bertha M. (Sherriff) Diven. On December 27th, 1952 she married her late husband, Merrill W. Shirk Jr. with whom she was blessed to share nearly 65 years of marriage before his passing on October 3, 2017.
She is survived by her two sons, Ronald K. Shirk and his wife Debbie of Daytona Beach, Florida, Tracy M. Shirk and his wife Tammy of Bloomsburg; three grandchildren, Jayme Bloom and her husband Tyler of Bloomsburg, Justin W. Shirk and his wife Jaime of Shippensburg, and Jesse T. Shirk and wife; Robyn of Bloomsburg ; also four great granddaughters Kira Shirk, Katie Shirk , Lennon Bloom and Sienna Bloom.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister Edith Shope in 1999 and a brother John Diven in 2002 making her the last of her generation.
She was a 1950 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown; and during her working career she was employed as a legal secretary for the late Clyde Baumgardner, Esq. of Mifflintown.
Her memberships included: the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Mifflintown Hose Co. No. 1. and she was a proud member of the Pennsylvania Voters Hall of Fame. She also volunteered delivering meals along with her late husband for the Juniata Meals on Wheels for over twenty years and volunteered for the Juniata County Food Pantry.
Carrie enjoyed camping at Leisure Point in Delaware, crocheting, square dancing and cooking.
A public graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27th , 2021 at the Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown with the Pastor Mindy Petrovcic officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
