Obituary for Mary G. Tonge (Mattera)
Mary G. Tonge, 88, of East Waterford, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
Born on December 18, 1931 in Chester, Delaware Co., she is a daughter of the late George E. and Nancy (Iacona) Mattera.
On February 28, 1954, she married her surviving husband, William S. Tonge, with whom she was blessed to share over 66 years of marriage.
Surviving her are: her children,; Linda Dunfee of Cochranville, PA, Cindy Ann Wilber and her husband Roland of Cortez, CO, Angela Samuels and her husband George of Boothwyn, PA, and Mary Kay Tonge of Port Royal; one brother, George Mattera of Philadelphia; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine and Theresa; and two brothers, Alfonso and Angelo.
Mrs.Tonge was a 1950 graduate of Chester High School and a 1953 graduate of the Chester Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed and retired as a Registered Nurse with various Delaware County Facilities and the former Meda Nipple Convalescent Home in Thompsontown.
She was a member of the St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Mifflintown where she belonged to the church’s Women’s Guild and was also a member of the Tuscarora Grange #774.
All Services will be Private.
