Obituary for Marsha E. Benner

Marsha Elaine (Auborn) Benner, 69, who lived for most of her life in McAlisterville, Pennsylvania, passed away at 4:46 PM on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Brookline Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania.

Born on August 11, 1951, Marsha was a daughter of the late Richard Ellsworth Auborn and the late Eugenia June (Laundre) Auborn and raised in South Onondaga near Syracuse, New York. She is survived by a sister, Linda Fay, and her husband, Norris; a brother, Steven, and his wife, Beulah; a brother, Michael; a niece, Alburnie Overlease, her husband, Olin, and their children, Erika, Emerick and Viktoria; and several cousins.

Marsha was a graduate of Onondaga Central Junior/Senior High School in South Onondaga. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Bible and Christian Education and minors in music and psychology from Houghton College, Houghton, New York, as well as certification as a paralegal from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania. First serving as an intern and then secretary for Central Pennsylvania Campus Life in Shamokin Dam, she worked for the majority of her career as a typist, proofreader and writer for the Pennsylvania Legislative Reference Bureau at the Capitol Building in Harrisburg, from which she had retired.

A parishioner of the Good News Lutheran Brethren Church in McAlisterville, Marsha loved music, books and movies. During her lifetime, she had served as a member and occasional soloist with the Syracuse Chorale, the Houghton College Choir, the Houghton College Chamber Singers, the Harrisburg Choral Society, the women's a cappella quartet L'Armonia Dolce and several church choirs.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 3 in the chapel at the Good News Lutheran Brethren Church, 32868 Route 35 N., McAlisterville, PA 17049 with Pastor Michael Edwards officiating. All guests are required to wear masks. There will be no visitation hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Good News Lutheran Brethren Church or to the Lymphatic Education and Research Network, 40 Garvies Point Road, Suite D, Glen Cove, NY 11542, http://lymphaticnetwork.org, to help fund research for the treatment of lymphedema.
