Obituary for Mary Jane Smith (Ramsey)

Mary Jane Smith, 93, of Middleburg, went to heaven on Monday, November 9, 2020 at the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village in Lewisburg.

Born on February 26, 1927 in Mifflintown, Juniata Co., she is the daughter of the late Ellsworth M. and Bessie Mae (Whistler) Ramsey.

On August 6, 1947, she married her late husband, Darwin C. Smith, with whom she was blessed to share more than 54 years of marriage before his passing on August 19, 2001.

Surviving her are: her children, Sandra Lepley and her husband Paul, Judy Walter and her husband James all of Beaver Springs, Larry Smith and his wife Judy of Port Royal, and Scott Smith of Middleburg; one sister, Bertha Wert of Port Royal; one brother, Gary L. Ramsey of Mifflintown; four grandchildren, Sue Kahley and her husband Kraig, Bryan Smith and his wife Carol, Amy Baker and her husband Eric, and Karen Ewing and her husband Duane; eight great grandchildren, Justin Herbster and his wife Heather, Theron Herbster and his wife Caitlin, Brandon Ewing, Kelsey Herbster, Amber Baker, Courtney Ewing, Paige Smith, and Bridget Baker; and six great great grandchildren, Bradyn, Easton, Juliette, Camden, Addison, and Maggie.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond R. Ramsey, Ellsworth M. Ramsey, Jr., and Donald E. “Duckie” Ramsey; one sister, Janet M. Swartz; and one grandson in law, Brian Herbster.

Mary Jane was a 1945 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and in earlier life was employed as a Laborer at the American Viscose Corp. in Lewistown and retired from Empire Kosher Poultry, Inc. in Mifflintown.

Mrs. Smith loved her time spent and camping on “the farm,” ceramics, flowers, and her family who she prayed for every single day.

She was currently the oldest lifelong member of the Arch Rock United Methodist Church in Mifflintown where her mother started taking her to church. As an adult, she enjoyed going to that same church and loved the people. She was a good and faithful servant who loved God and praised him every day and is now in his loving arms.

Public Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, Nov. 13, 2020 at Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown with Pastor Gerald Miller officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Smith’s memory may be made to the Arch Rock United Methodist Church, in care of Marty Ritter, PO Box 64, Mifflin, PA 17058
