Obituary for Janet C. Symmerman (McCulloch)

Janet C. Symmerman, 87, of Thompsontown, passed away into the hands of her Lord and Savior at 6:20 PM on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin.

Born on November 3, 1932 in Honey Grove, Juniata Co., she is the daughter of the late James L. and Frances L. (Junkins) McCulloch. On April 18, 1954, she married her late husband, James R. “Jim” Symmerman Sr., with whom she was blessed to share over 47 years of marriage before his passing on March 2, 2002.

Surviving her are her children, Brenda K. Rager, Julie Symmerman and her companion Larry Mowery all of McAlisterville, and James R. Symmerman Jr. and his wife Christine of Thompsontown; one son in law, Harmon J. “Hump” Bender of Mifflin; one sister, Cecile G. McCulloch of Enola; one granddaughter, Maggie J. Reichel and her companion Michael S. Minot; two great grandsons, Graeson J. Reichel and Aleczander W. Reichel; one step great grandson, Dakota J. Minot; and several generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah E. Bender on January 15, 2015; a son in infancy; and two sisters, Helen E. Myers and E. Romaine Kennedy.

Janet was a member and had attended the Free Spring Church of the Brethren in Van Wert and in earlier life, was employed at the East Salem Shirt Factory.

She enjoyed cooking, canning, attending country and gospel shows, and loving all her pets throughout the years; however, she cherished the time spent wither her family and friends, especially her children, granddaughter, and great grandchildren.

All services will be private and interment will take place at Goodwill Cemetery in Bunkertown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Symmerman’s memory may be made to the American Foundation for the Blind, 1401 S. Clark St., Ste. 730, Arlington, VA 22202 or to Pets Come First, 2451 General Potter Highway, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
