Obituary for Geraldine J. Lyter (Leister)

Geraldine J. “Gerry” Lyter, 97, of Danville, formerly of Mifflintown, passed away at 5:34 PM on Friday, July 3, 2020 at the Nottingham Village Nursing Center in Northumberland.

Born on July 25, 1922 in Cocolamus, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Charles P. and Joyce (Benner) Leister. In 1943, she married her first husband, Warren D. Graybill, with whom she was blessed to share 33 years of marriage before his passing on December 17, 1976. In 1978, she was married to her second husband, John Adams, with whom she was blessed to share 7 years of marriage before his passing on June 18, 1985. In 1990, she was married to her third husband, Paul “Pop Pop” Lyter with whom she was blessed to share 20 years of marriage before his passing on April 7, 2011.

Surviving her are: two daughters, Sandra K. Eckard and her husband Jack of Danville and Wenda E. Smith and her husband Jim of Reston, VA; one sister, Lenna Kratzer of Cocolamus; five grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Nathan Smith, Todd Eckard, Carmen Wagner, and Heather Shope; and thirteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by: one son, Barry Lee Graybill; five sisters, Evelyn Stuck, Florence Graybill, Orpha Leister, Arlene Leitzel, and Hilma Shank; and two brothers, Delbert Leister, and a baby brother in infancy.

Mrs. Lyter was employed and retired as a Supervisor at Miss Fashionality Blouse Factory in East Salem.

Her memberships included the Locust Run United Methodist Church in Thompsontown, where she was involved with the Locust Run Ladies Aid; sang in the church choir; was a former Sunday School teacher; and was involved with the church’s Vacation Bible School after her retirement.

Gerry lived to entertain her extended family and friends in her home and enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, traveling, and shopping with her daughters, granddaughters, and sisters

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Locust Run United Methodist Church, 25 Locust Run Road, Thompsontown with the Rev. Fred Snyder officiating. Interment will follow at the Locust Run Cemetery, Thompsontown.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Lyter’s memory may be made to the Locust Run United Methodist Church, 25 Locust Run Road, Thompsontown, PA 17094.
