Obituary for Roy S. Colyer
Roy S. Colyer, 80, of Mifflintown (Licking Creek), passed away at 4:56 p.m., Monday, June 22, 2020, at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital Emergency Room.
Born on January 5, 1940 in McAlisterville, Juniata County, he is a son of the late Cloyd R. and Maggie (Smith) Colyer. On October 21, 1961, he married his surviving wife, Nancy L. (Zook) Colyer with whom he was blessed to share over 58 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his children, Leigh Ann Bumgardner and her husband Timothy of Thompsontown, Michelle A. Peterson of Harrisburg, and Eric S. Colyer and his wife Julie of Mifflintown; one brother, Cloyd Colyer, Jr. and and his wife Betty of McAlisterville; seven grandchildren, Alison (Childs) Longenecker and husband Daniel, Kenneth R. Varnes, Larry G. Varnes, Melissa G. Peterson, Nicholas E. Peterson, Amber R. Zimmerman and her husband Damien, and Jared A. Fulkroad and his wife Erica; and six great grandchildren, Stella Longenecker, Dexter Longenecker, Landon Zimmerman, Shyler Zimmerman, Bentley Fulkroad, and Maveryck Fulkroad.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Esther Billow, Mary Dressler, Anna Mae Weiand, Ruth Colyer, Althea Meiser, Mildred Dunn, William Colyer, Albert Colyer, Norman Colyer, and George Colyer.
Mr. Colyer was a proud Teamster for Local 776 in Harrisburg where he was involved in over the road trucking for over 38 years. In 1988, he took over the ownership of Juniata Tire Sales in Licking Creek, and in 1999, was the founder of Juniata Alignment.
Roy honorably served our country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 where he spent 27 months in Germany and had the opportunity to tour through different parts of Europe.
He was Lutheran by faith and was a member of the AMVETS J.E. Bowen Jr. Post 122 in Thompsontown and also the Milford Grange No. 773 in Licking Creek.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, looking forward to his yearly Canadian fishing trips, raising Hereford cows, hanging out in “the Bullpen” at the Tire Shop, and hosting the annual Juniata Tire Sales Christmas party; however, most important to him was the time spent with his family, especially his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will long be remembered for his loving and caring nature and his ability to help those in need.
All services will be private.
