Obituary for Geraldine "Gerry" Stroup (Leitzel)

Geraldine “Gerry” Stroup, 76, of Richfield, passed away at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, February, 26, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Born on March 20, 1943 in Monroe Twp., Juniata County, she is the daughter of the late William and Gladys (Hoffman) Leitzel.

On December 23, 1961, she married her surviving husband, Lester W. Stroup, with whom she was blessed to share over 58 years of marriage.

She is survived by her children, Michael Stroup and his wife Jeannie of Richfield, Rodney Stroup and his wife Donna of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Matthew Stroup and his wife Kathy of Port Royal; five siblings, Alma Duffield and her husband Don of Cogan Station, Arlene Price and her husband Carl of McAlisterville, David Leitzel and his wife Janice of Richfield, Gail Hoffman of Northumberland, Luann Stroup and her husband Richard of Richfield; and six grandchildren, Joshua Stroup and his wife Brigette, Alyssa Stroup, Christopher Scott, Madyson Stroup, Anna Stroup, and Wyatt Stroup.

Mrs. Stroup was a 1961 graduate of East Juniata High School in Cocolamus and was a member of the Brown’s United Methodist Church in McAlisterville.

In addition to being a homemaker, Geraldine was actively involved with the family business, Evendale Tire Sales, since 1981.

Gerry enjoyed spending time vacationing in Florida, shopping, playing cards weekly with her friends and neighbors in Evendale, attending her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events, and decorating for the holiday’s; however, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 2, 2020 at the Brown’s United Methodist Church, 33762 Route 35 North, McAlisterville with Pastor Kevin Brophy, Pastor Ron Berrus, and Pastor Aaron Benner officiating. Interment will follow at the Brown’s United Methodist Cemetery in Cocolamus.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the Brown’s United Methodist Church in McAlisterville.
