Obituary for Calvin E. Kerstetter


Calvin E. Kerstetter, 68, of Mifflintown, passed away unexpectedly at 12:45 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at his home.

Born on November 1, 1951 in Fermanagh Twp., Juniata Co., he is a son of the late Glenn A. Sr. and Thelma (Peck) Kerstetter and was raised by his foster parents, Herb Burd Jr. of Port Royal and the late Nellie (Gray) Burd.

On November 13, 1971, he married his surviving wife, Deborah F. (Yocum) Kerstetter, with whom he was blessed to share more than 48 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife and foster father, he is survived by his children, Dulcie E. Peck and her husband Matthew and Mandy J. Kerstetter and her spouse Ladonna Kerstetter, all of Spruce Hill; siblings, Mary Shrawder and her husband Ken of McClure, Glenn A. Kerstetter Jr. of Val Dese, NC, Dorothy Springman and Connie Lyons, both of Williamsport, Ronald Kerstetter of Mifflin, and Nancy Rhoades and her husband Terry of Port Royal; and he leaves behind two precious grandsons, Jonathon Peck and Kaden Kerstetter.

In addition to his parents and foster mother, he was preceded in death by a foster brother, Kent Burd.

Calvin was a 1971 graduate of Juniata High School in Mifflintown where his legacy still remains with the Juniata High School Indians football team because he will long be remembered for “Calvins Cals” which were named after him.

In 2016, he retired with 30 years of service as a Carpenter for J. Fulkroad and Son, Oakland Mills.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 143 in Lewistown.

Calvin enjoyed hunting, watching football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Juniata High School Indians, driving his pride and joy, a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette; however, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the Pastor Gerald Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown.

A viewing will take place from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at the funeral home.
