Joanne M. Shehan, 89, of McAlisterville, passed away at 2:55 AM on Friday, December 6, 2019 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

Born on September 22, 1930 in Thompsontown, Juniata Co., she is the daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Cameron) Leach.

On August 12, 1950, she married her late husband, Harold L. Shehan, with whom she was blessed to share over 68 years of marriage before his passing on February 4, 2019.

She is survived by her children, Christine D. Shadel and her husband Dan of McAlisterville and Daryl L. Shehan and his wife Jane of Clyde Park, MT; one brother, Darwin Leach of Thompsontown; four grandsons, Scott Marker and his companion Lisa Stimeling, Joe Marker and his wife Angela, Jerad Marker and his companion Jayme Dressler, and Cody Shadel and his companion Chelsea Street; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Leach.

Mrs. Shehan was a 1948 graduate of Thompsontown High School where she excelled in athletics. She was employed and retired as a cook for the former Benner’s Restaurant in Thompsontown.

After marriage, Joanne and her husband started farming, first in Van Wert and then later in Thompsontown where they had bought a dairy farm and lived and farmed for over 20 years.

Joanne was a member of the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren. In earlier life, she enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband, especially the many trips they had taken across the country to visit their son and daughter in law in Wyoming and Montana and spending time with their friends up on Ritzman’s Ridge. She also enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, was an avid baseball fan and rooted for the Atlanta Braves, but the greatest joy she had was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
