Obituary for Vernon E. Romig

Vernon E. Romig, 79, of McAlisterville, went home with his Lord and Savior at 4:46 AM, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Ohesson Manor in Lewistown.

Born on May 25, 1940 in Beaver Springs, Snyder Co., he is a son of the late George and Julia (Erb) Romig.

On September 22, 1962, he married his surviving wife, Eva J. (Smith) Romig with whom he was blessed to share over 56 years of marriage.

Mr. Romig was a 1958 graduate of West Snyder High School and was employed at Kinney Shoes in Beaver Springs where he retired after 25 years of service. After that, he was employed at Colonial Furniture in Freeburg for over 20 years of service where retired a second time.

Vernon was a member of Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church in Mifflintown since 1977 where he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his church family.

His hobbies included: being an avid race fan where he enjoyed attending the races at Port Royal Speedway and any other race track when possible; hunting and spending time at his summer home in Perry County; enjoying his antique tractors and attending tractor shows; and spending time with his family and friends, who will remember him for his compassion, always being there to lend a hand to those in need, and his great attitude, even when things were looking down.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sisters, Kathleen Mitchell of Beaver Springs and Cheryl Romig of Lewistown; two brothers, Weldon Romig and his wife Mary of Mifflintown and Dennis Romig and his wife Anna of Beaver Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Arlene Reidinger; and two brothers, Herman Romig and Wallace Romig.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, at 11:00 a.m. from the Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church, Mifflintown with the Pastor Kenneth Hepner officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m until the time of service at the church.
