Obituary

Alda M. Martin, 83, of Selinsgrove, formerly of Richfield, passed away surrounded by her loving family at 8:36 PM on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born on August 1, 1935 in Newport, Perry Co., she is a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary K. (Sheaffer) Baker. On June 11, 1955, she was married to her husband, Ronald P. Martin with whom she was blessed to share more than 44 years of marriage before his passing on January 11, 1999.

She is survived by a son, Danny J. Martin and his wife Cathy of Richfield; a daughter, Lori Martin of Northumberland; three grandchildren, Kalie Martin, Amanda Hogan and her husband Michael, and Andrew Apple and his wife Meagan; six great-grandchildren, Emma Hogan, Adam Hogan, Grace Hogan, Cohen Apple, Lincoln Apple, and Nolan Apple; one sister, Bonnie Funk of Sunbury; and several generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her companion, Robert Zaring on July 7, 2014 and her siblings, Walter Baker in infancy, Mary Catherine Bower, Rhoda Saylor, and Albert J. Baker.

She was a 1953 graduate of Newport High School who enjoyed being a family centered homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Mrs. Martin was a member of the First Church of God in Newport and attended the Richfield United Church of Christ in the last several years of her Richfield residency.

Active throughout her children’s lives, Alda was a part of many school and youth activities and extra circular events. She loved her life along the Juniata River, often entertaining summer gatherings while enjoying boating and swimming. She was an avid artist in earlier years and still was in total enjoyment of her coloring books and also adored country music with Charley Pride being her favorite of all.

Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the Richfield United Church of Christ, 44 Church St., Richfield with Pastor Tammy Gessner and Mrs. Martin’s nephew, Pastor Rodney Bower, officiating. Interment will follow in the Richfield Union Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Martin’s memory to the American Heart Association, 4250 Crums Mill Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
