Obituary for Dorothy M. Burdge



Dorothy M. Burdge , 83, of East Waterford, passed away at 7:50 AM on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on February 10, 1935 in Tell Twp., Huntingdon Co., she is a daughter of the late Raymond and Lena (Pyles) Goshorn.
On August 11, 1953, she was married to her surviving husband, T. Hays Burdge, with whom she was blessed to share more than 65 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Ruth A. Best and her husband Joseph of Dry Run, Larry D. Burdge and his wife Bonnie of East Waterford; a sister, Pauline Clouser of Chambersburg; two sister in laws, Eleanor Goshorn of Mifflin and Shelby Goshorn of Huntingdon; five grandchildren, Gregory Best and his wife Jackie, Todd Best and his wife Lori, Amy Shope and her husband Dan, Levi Burdge and his wife Heather, Logan Burdge and his fiancée Olivia Dietz; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Best, Preston Best, Andrew Best, and Ava Shope.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Clair Goshorn, Brooks Goshorn, and William Goshorn; and a sister in law, Evelyn Goshorn.
Mrs. Burdge was a 1953 graduate of Orbisonia High School and a member of the Richvale United Methodist Church and the Tuscarora Valley Heritage Days Committee.
In earlier life, she was a seamstress at Lyons Fashions in Mifflin, but most of her married life, she assisted her husband on the family farm.
Dorothy loved growing flowers, especially geraniums and African violets. A favorite pastime of hers was attending tractor shows and according to Dorothy, “If it wasn’t red, it should stay in the shed.”
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Richvale United Methodist Church, 17940 Shade Valley Road, Blairs Mills with the Pastor Rick Fluke officiating. Interment will follow at the Shade Valley Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, and from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services on Friday at the church.
The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly ask that memorial donations in Mrs. Burdge’s memory be made to the Richvale United Methodist Church, 17940 Shade Valley Road, Blairs Mills, PA 17213.
