Obituary for Rufus E. Lauver

Rufus E. Lauver, 79, of McAlisterville, passed away at 10:45 PM on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey.

Born on July 19, 1939 in Van Wert, Juniata Co., he is a son of the late Rev. Harvey S. and Ruth C. (Kanode) Lauver.

On June 25, 1960, he was married to his surviving wife, Esther M. (Zook) Lauver with whom he was blessed to share over 58 years of marriage.

Rufus was a 1957 graduate of Juniata Joint High School.

He was employed as Farm Implement Salesman at various locations throughout Central Pennsylvania for over 25 years. Following his time in equipment sales, he was a freight deliveryman for Home Interiors. In his retirement, he enjoyed providing transportation to the local Amish Community.

Mr. Lauver was a member of the New Harvest Brethren in Christ Church in Millerstown. He loved and supported his children and grandchildren throughout their lives and enjoyed attending their sporting events, rooting on the Phillies, and attending and watching tractor events.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Dwight D. Lauver and his wife Erica of Middleburg, Terry L. Lauver and his wife Deborah of Hummelstown, Crystal A. Lauver of Mifflintown, Jeffrey S. Lauver and his wife Debra of Carlisle, and Deron L. Lauver of Mifflintown; siblings, Lois Myers, Esther Davis, Laban Lauver, George Lauver, and Alma Shelly; fourteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Kyle Knepp; and siblings, Samuel and Charles Lauver in infancy, James, Clair, Boyd, and Ray Lauver, and Dorcas Brandt.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown with the Rev. Terry Burton, the Rev. Kenneth Hepner, and the Rev. Warren Peachey officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Sunday, January 20, 2019, and from 9:30 until the time of the funeral services at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 21, 2019 all from the church.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Boehmer and the staff of the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center for the care they gave to Mr. Lauver.
