Robert C. “Bob” Ranck, 80, of Mifflintown, passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Ohesson Manor, Lewistown.

Born on April 17, 1938 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he was son to the late Robert W. Ranck and the late Eva (Temple) Goss, and to his step-father the late Lloyd W. Goss. On August 1, 1959 he married his surviving wife Phyllis M. (Fulton) Ranck with whom he was blessed to share more than 59 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Amy Whitesel and her husband Jim, of Mifflintown; a son, Tim Ranck and his wife Susan, of State College; and five grandchildren: Sarah Whitesel and her husband Hector Nunez, Caleb Whitesel, Seth Whitesel, Micah Whitesel and Joshua Whitesel.

Mr. Ranck was a 1956 graduate of Lewistown High School and a 1960 graduate of Slippery Rock University.

Mr. Ranck taught high school math for 40 years, where he brightened his classroom with his humor and gift for remembering his students' unique personalities. His teaching career spanned forty years, including stints in Mifflin County and Franklin County, and he retired in 2000 from the Juniata County School District. In addition to teaching, Mr. Ranck also spent many years coaching high school basketball. While coaching in the 1965-1966 basketball season at Juniata Joint High School he reached the pinnacle of his coaching career by coaching his team to the Tri-Valley League Championship.

Bob attended the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown and he enjoyed tying flies, fishing, rooting for the Boston Red Socks and Celtics, making his daily coffee run, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Some of his most cherished moments were at his camp, "The Shanty," on Penns Creek, trips out west with his friends and son, and family vacations at the beach.

His penchant for giving nicknames and his many memorable sayings will be remembered fondly by his family.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown, beginning with a visitation from 10 a.m. until the memorial service's start at noon. Pastor Caleb Burd will officiate. Interment will be private.
