Obituary for Betty M. Horton



Betty M. Horton, 88, of Brookline Village, Mifflintown passed away at 4:44 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2018.
Born on January 27, 1930 in Clearville, Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Albert W. and Letha F. (Mills) Koontz. On July 3, 1952 she married her surviving husband Gene A. Horton with whom she was blessed to share more than 66 years of marriage.
Surviving are: two daughters, Cathy A. Halbleib and her husband Byron, of Lenoir, NC Cindy M. Gross and her husband Daniel, of Southern Shores, NC; siblings Robert W. Koontz and his wife Shirley, Carol A. Evans and her husband Ronald, all of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, Dr. Adrienne Darhower, Cody Halbleib, Chelsea Halbleib, Lauren Gross, Ethan Gross, one great-granddaughter Micah Jacobson and several generations of nieces and nephews.
A brother, Donald A. Koontz and a nephew Bradley W. Evans preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the Gov. Mifflin, Chapter 260, Order of the Eastern Star, both of Mifflintown.
Betty was a retired Registered Nurse, a graduate from Altoona Nursing School, who worked in various hospitals in Pennsylvania. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her family and giving gifts to others.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, on Friday, December 21, 2018, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with the Pastor Denise Haskins officiating. Interment will follow in the Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
There will be no viewing; however a visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mrs. Horton’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
