Obituary for Sarah G. Foltz (Kuhns)

Sarah G. Foltz, 81, of McAlisterville, passed away at 1:40 PM on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at her residence.

Born on January 26, 1937 in Cocolamus, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Ernest and Mabel (Swartz) Kuhns. On June 22, 1963, she married her late husband, Melvin E. Foltz, with whom she was blessed to share over 31 years of marriage before his passing on April 14, 1995.

Sarah was a 1954 graduate of East Juniata High School in Cocalamus and in earlier life, was employed at Beaver’s Fruit Farm in McAlisterville. Later on, she took care of janitorial services at the McAlisterville Senior Citizens Center.

She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Cocalamus where she was a former member of the choir. Mrs. Foltz enjoyed cooking, baking, rooting on the Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State football but her most cherished memories were spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by her children: Karen M. Van Horn and her husband Dennis of McAlisterville and Michael E. Foltz and his wife Shelby of Loganton; and her late husband’s daughter, Mary Varner and her husband George of Mifflintown.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sarah was preceded in death by her siblings, George Kuhns, Ellen Graybill, and a brother in infancy making her the last of her generation.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 17, 2018 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 144 Red Bank Road, McAlisterville with the Rev. Candace Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Monday from the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Foltz’s memory may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, c/o Lisa Ard, 1222 Fairview Road, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
