Obituary for Melvin M. "Mel" Hoover Jr.



Melvin M. Hoover, Jr., 58, of Berrysburg, formerly of Port Royal and Lancaster, passed away at 8:42 a.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic Campus in Harrisburg.

Born on August 10, 1960 in Ephrata, Lancaster Co., he is a son of the late Melvin M. Sr. and Edna G. (Martin) Hoover.

On December 27, 1980, he was married to his surviving wife, Anna W. (Martin) Hoover, with whom he was blessed to share over 37 years of marriage.

Mel was a graduate of Eastern Lebanon Co. High School, was employed as an over the road truck driver, and was the owner and operator of KKR Ventures LLC in Berrysburg.

He was a member of the Delaware Mennonite Church in Thompsontown and enjoyed wood working, especially wooden toys.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Karen Elizabeth, K. Nathan, Rosanne Kay, and Phillip Andrew Hoover, all at home; two sisters, Ruth Ann Hoover and her husband Clair of Mohnton and Mary Jane Martin of Ephrata; two brothers, Curvin Hoover and his wife Mary Jane of Kinzers and Nelson Hoover and his wife Dawn of Lebanon; four sisters in law, Edna Faye Burkholder, Vera Sensenig, Mary E. Nolt, and Etta Martin; seven brothers in law, Leon, Harold, Lewis, Lloyd, Roy, Paul David, and Lester Abraham Martin; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother in law, Vernon Martin.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018, beginning at 11 AM at the Delaware Mennonite Church, 16 Delaware Church Road, Thompsontown with Pastor David Gingrich officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 4 – 8 PM on Sunday, October 28, 2018 and from 10 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11 AM on Monday at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Hoover’s memory can be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
