Obituary for Edward E. "Ed" Singer

Edward E. “Ed” Singer, 80, of Mifflintown, passed away at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at his residence.
Born on June 28, 1938 in Fermanagh Twp., Juniata County, he was a son of the late Carl W. and Rebecca M. (Kepner) Singer. On December 31, 1961, he married his late wife, Nora Ella (Bashore) Singer, with whom he was blessed to share more than 50 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on October 7, 2012.
Surviving are: three sons, Rick B. Singer and his wife Kathy, of Mifflintown, Lawrence L. Singer and his wife Laurie, of Chambersburg, Andrew E. Singer and his companion Martie, of Mifflintown, his companion of four years, Barbara Dysinger, of Mifflintown and he leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
One grandson, Ben M. Singer, four brothers, C. Jack Singer, Bradie K. Singer, Gerald Singer and Clinton C. “Bud” Singer all preceded him in death making him the last of his generation.
Mr. Singer was a 1957 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and a proud Vietnam veteran serving his country with the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Lost Creek Golf Club, the Union Lodge No. 324 F&AM, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Juniata Forest No. 88, Zembo Shrine, Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post No 5863, American Legion Post No. 298 and the Train Collectors Assoc.
Along with his late wife they owned and operated wife Singer’s Restaurant, of Mifflintown and Newport, after which they owned the local landmark Zimmies Diner, Mifflintown. Mr. Singer also retired from PA Commonwealth, Harrisburg with 22 years of service as a Dog Law Enforcement Officer.
Through his community involvement he currently was serving as the President of the Mifflintown Borough Council and he had served as a Deputy Sherriff under Juniata County Sherriff Thomas Nipple for ten years.
Ed enjoyed train collecting, square dancing, polka dancing, woodworking and golfing.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the Rev. Chris Mathiason officiating. Interment will follow in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
Viewing will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
