Obituary for Sara Grace Burchfield



Sara Grace (Gilson) Burchfield, 98, of Mifflintown, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 5:25 p.m., on Saturday, July 14, 2008 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin.
Born on May 19, 1920 in Port Royal, Juniata Co., she was a daughter of the late William H. and Margaret E. (Dysinger) Gilson. On October 2, 1938, she married her late husband, J. Hurley Burchfield, whom she was blessed to share over 63 years of marriage before he passed away on March 28, 2002.
Mrs. Burchfield is survived by her children, Sally A. Harris and her husband Larry of Mifflintown, Richard H. “Dick” Burchfield and his wife Amy of Port Royal, and Ted B. Burchfield of Mifflintown; one brother, Robert C. Gilson and his wife Alice of Port Royal seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Dr. John I. Gilson, F. Laird “Ham” Gilson and Helen G. Macknair.
She was a 1938 graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School, Port Royal and she was a member of the Faith Bible Church of Port Royal, The Order of Eastern Star Mifflin Chapter #260 and the Red Hat Society.
She and her husband formerly owned the Mifflin Dry Cleaners and Laundromat in Mifflintown.
Sara Grace enjoyed giving back to her community by serving as a volunteer at the Lewistown Hospital Gift Shop, delivering Meals on Wheels, and volunteering at the Locust Grove Retirement Village. She faithfully served the Lord by playing the piano and organ in church for many years. She also enjoyed spending time with her family at the beach at their cottage at Island Grove and was looking forward to the four little additions soon arriving to her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at the Faith Bible Church, 417 E. Fourth St., Port Royal, with Dr. Glen Webb officiating. Interment will follow at the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church.
