Frederick E. Weiand


Frederick E. “Fred” Weiand, 84, of Thompsontown, passed away at 7:55 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on June 12, 1933 in Decatur Twp., Mifflin County, he is a son the late Ralph I. and Katherine Edna (Goss) Weiand. On February 7, 1953 in Winchester, VA, he was married to his surviving wife, Arlene L. (Leach) Weiand, with whom he was blessed to share more than 65 years of marriage.
He was a 1951 graduate of Juniata Joint High School and honorably served our country during the Korean War in the United States Army.
Fred was employed and retired as a carpenter for Slough Flooring in Penbrook. After his retirement, he enjoyed working with and helping his son, Greg, at F & G Flooring of Millerstown.
Mr. Weiand was a member of the Free Spring Church of the Brethren in Van Wert, where he served on the church board, served as an usher, and went on disaster relief trips with the church.
His interests included woodworking, enjoying the outdoors, and hunting; however, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
Surviving are: two sons, Gregory S. “Grubb” Weiand and his wife Teresa “Reese” of Millerstown and Frederick L. Weiand and his wife Patty J. of Thompsontown; siblings, Charles Weiand and his wife Joan of Thompsontown, Arlene Teel and husband; Donald of Shawnee, KS , Iris Wilson and her husband Leon of Manheim, and Sandy Summers and companion Gary of Lewistown; three grandchildren, Joshua Weiand and his wife Ali, Seth Weiand, and Kacy Rhoads and her husband Jesse; and five great-grandchildren, Trey, Chase, and Drew Weiand, and Gage and Cooper Rhoads.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Weiand and a sister, Ralphetta Schlegel.
Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Free Spring Church of the Brethren, 670 Free Spring Church Road, Mifflintown with Pastor Terry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Thompsontown.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.
