Obituary for E. Nan Eckard

E. Nan Eckard, 97, of Mifflin, passed away at 12:43 a.m., Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on November 13, 1919, in Port Royal, Juniata County she was a daughter of the late Cecil K. and Janet E. (Koons) Lytle. On October 31, 1942 she married her late husband Hayes W. Eckard, Sr. with whom she was blessed to share almost 55 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on September 7, 1997.
Surviving are, a son, Hayes W. Eckard, Jr. and his wife Barbara, a granddaughter, Corri Shambaugh and her husband Wally, and a great-granddaughter, Neve Shambaugh all of Mifflintown.
One brother, Robert Lytle and two sisters, Geraldine Randolph, and Betty Rowe preceded her in death, making her the last of her generation.
She was a graduate of Port Royal High School, a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown and a member of the Juniata County Democratic Women’s Association.
Mrs. Eckard retired from the Dept. of Treasury of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg with more than 20 years of service.
Nan’s favorite pastime was traveling, especially thru the west, camping at Indian River, taking bus tours, reading, playing pinochle and tending to her flower gardens.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017 from the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the Rev. Crystal M. Lyde officiating.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly ask that memorial contributions may be made to the Juniata County Library, 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown, PA 17059
