Matthew L. “Matt” Elder, 47, of Mifflintown passed away at 7:25 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the Pinnacle Health West Shore Hospital.
Born on October 30, 1967, in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, he is a son of the Nancy (Bovard) Elder of Brookline Manor, Mifflintown and Donald L. Elder and his wife Gayle L. Elder of Shippensburg. On October 2, 1999, he married his surviving wife, Shelly L. (Swartz) Elder, with whom he was blessed to share nearly 16 years of marriage.
Surviving are his children, Andrew J. Elder, Olivia G. Elder both at home, a step-brother, Heath Myers and his wife Lisa of Shippensburg, his beloved dog Blake and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Elder was a 1986 graduate of Central Dauphin East High School, and a member of the American Legion Post No. 298, Mifflintown.
Prior to his illness he had worked as an EMT.
Matt was an avid reader who loved animals and spending time with his children.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Corner of Third and Lemon Strs., Mifflintown with the Pastor Casey Hostler officiating. Interment will be private.
There will be no viewing; however a time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2015 until the time of service at the church.
