ELIZABETHTOWN, Janet M. Eshenower, 73, of Elizabethtown and formerly of McAlisterville, died at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at her home.
Born on March 24, 1940, in Fayette Twp., Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late R. Elmer and Mary L. (Hower) Winey. Her husband, Donald L. Eshenower, whom she married on December 5, 1980, survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by, two sons, Randy Zendt and his wife Colleen, of Elizabethtown, Craig Zendt and his wife Tina, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two step daughters, Kim Bair and her husband Wade, of McAlisterville, Dawn Eshenower-Osburn, of Newport, and she leaves behind, eight grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
One son, Joseph Zendt, in infancy and one grandson, Seth Zendt, preceded her in death.
She was a 1959 graduate of East Juniata High School. Janet had been attending the Life Point Church, Harrisburg and was a member of the Juniata County Business and Professional Women, and a former member of the Richfield Women’s Club.
In earlier life, Mrs. Eshenower, was employed by the West Snyder High School as a secretary. Later, she co-owned and operated the Zendt Nursing Home, Richfield after which she was employed as a secretary for Walker Wood Products, Mifflintown.
Janet was an avid reader and an ardent animal lover, who enjoyed watching birds and especially loved her dogs.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with Dr. Glenn E. Pfeiffer officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing; however, family will be present to receive friends from 5 p.m. until the time of service, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
