Obituary for Blair E. Yorks

THOMPSONTOWN, Blair E. Yorks, 89, of Thompsontown died at 12:25 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on June 6, 1924, in Fayette Twp., Juniata County, he was a son of the late Cloyd and Rebecca (Miller) Yorks. On December 28, 1946, he married his surviving wife, Sarah Evelyn (Swartz) Yorks, with whom he shared more than 67 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, John E. Yorks and his wife Dorothy, of Mifflin, Blair M. Yorks, Sr. and his wife Russalee, of Mifflintown, Sara Maxine Mathieu, of Thompsontown; six grandchildren, John Yorks, Jr., Tina Kint, Melissa Kitting, Blair Yorks, Jr., Randy Zeigler and Angie Walters; 14 great grandchildren, Andi Marie Yorks, Shelby Yorks, Dalton Yorks, Kyle Kint, Shane Kint, Alyssa Flaherty, Megan Armstrong, Brooke Kitting, Nevin Yorks, Owen Yorks, Korinne Walters, Blake Walters, Shelby Hollobaugh and Shianne Bender and one great granddaughter, Alexandria Hockenberry.
He was the last of his generation, having been preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
Blair was a member of the McAlisterville United Methodist Church, where he had served on the board of trustees and along with his wife, served as the church custodian. He was also a former member of the Lost Creek Trout Club.
Mr. Yorks proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II.
In earlier life he was employed as a truck driver for Savercool Trucking, Millerstown and later until his retirement, worked for the PA Dept. of Transportation, Mifflintown.
Being an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He was a true sports fan who loved all sports, especially baseball and professional wrestling; however, his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 11 am from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with the Rev. Edward D’Agostino and Pastor Ronald Shupe officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, where the Juniata County Veterans Council will accord full military burial honors.
A viewing will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. with family present to receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 and from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
