Obituary for Edna B. Yorks (Phillips)

MIFFLINTOWN, Edna B. Yorks, 94, of the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown and formerly of McAlisterville, died at 8:05 a.m., on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Brookline.

Born on December 3, 1916, in Fayette Twp., Juniata Co., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Dora B. (Fronk) Phillips. On March 22, 1942, she wed Franklin R. Yorks, with whom she spent nearly 56 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on February 25, 1998.

Surviving are her daughters, Sarah Coudriet and Kay Yorks, both of McAlisterville and she leaves behind five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was a great granddaughter, Tiffany Coudriet and she is the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by five brothers, Lester Phillips, Roy Phillips, Earl Phillips, Boyd Phillips, Myron Phillips and one half-sister, Sylvia Benner.

She was a 1937 graduate of Fayette High School, McAlisterville and a member of the McAlisterville United Methodist Church.

Until retiring, Mrs. Yorks was a seamstress for L. Shellenberger Shirt Factory, McAlisterville and Renninger Dress Factory, Mifflintown.

Edna cherished spending time with her family, especially babysitting her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and caring for her dogs and her cat “Fluff”.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, April 29, 2011 from the Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville with Pastor Edward D’Agostino officiating.

Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
