Obituary for Merle C. Imes

LEWISTOWN, Merle C. Imes, 82, of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown and formerly of Doyles Mills died at 2:36 p.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at the manor.

Born on May 2, 1928, in Beale Twp., Juniata County, he is the son of Clair (Benner) Imes, of Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown, and the late Miles H. Imes.

Merle was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all of his family, including his wife of nearly 57 years, Dorothy H. (Keister) Imes, whom he married on December 24, 1953, and his children: Larry M. Imes and his wife Wendy, Carol M. Lyter and her husband Tom, Mary C. Ennist and her husband Mike, W. Edward Imes, all of Mifflin, one sister, Faye Campbell and her husband, Tom, of Mifflin, three grandchildren, Ryan Ennist and his wife Chrissy, of Drexel Hill, Jenna M. Imes of Allentown, Brooks Ennist, and one step granddaughter, Michelle Lyter and her fiancé Travis Holler, all of Mifflin.

Merle was a US Army Veteran, proudly serving his country during the Korean Conflict, and often talked often of driving Jeep in Germany. After returning home from service, he became a life member of the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post #5863, Mifflintown.

Mr. Imes was a retired farmer who spent most of his lifetime on the family farm. He also hauled cattle and enjoyed attending the Belleville and Middleburg Auctions.

He especially loved spending time with “the guys” at his hunting camp, “Bookies.”

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 28, 2010, from the South Juniata Baptist Church, 3647 Smokey Hollow Road, Honey Grove, with the Rev. Dennis Thompson officiating. Interment will be private, in the Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

Viewing will be held from 7 - 9 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2010, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc. 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
