Sara Jane Swartz, 83, of Thompsontown, passed away at 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Bridges at Brookline in Mifflintown.
Born on July 14, 1935 in Monroe Twp., Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late S. Ralph and Mary (Auker) Graybill. On January 22, 1956, she married her surviving husband, Robert E. Swartz, with whom she was blessed to share more than 62 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Swartz is survived by three daughters, Joyce “Joy” Steffy and her husband Nelson of Carlisle, Brenda Hochstetler and her husband Vernon of Columbia, SC, and Melody Miller and her husband Alan of Elizabethtown; one son, Delbert Swartz and his wife Marilyn of Thompsontown; eleven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six step-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Beiler; two brothers, Melvin and Allen Graybill; a granddaughter, Destinee Hochstetler and a great-grandson, Dedan Swartz making her the last of her generation.
Sara Jane was a 1953 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School and she was a member of the Delaware Mennonite Church, where she served as a Sunday School Secretary and was involved in the sewing circle where she served as President for many years.
She enjoyed reading, playing card games and board games.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Delaware Mennonite Church, 16 Delaware Church Road, Thompsontown with the Pastor David Gingrich officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 6 – 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service on Monday, both at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
